Net CPM is what you actually keep per mile after every cost — fuel, operating expenses, maintenance, and fixed payments. It's the number that tells you your floor rate: the minimum you can accept on any load and still make money.
Total mile Net CPM is the honest business number — it includes deadhead (empty) miles because those miles cost you money too. Loaded mile Net CPM is what you compare against broker rate sheets.
Use the floor rate to negotiate. If a broker offers $1.80/mi and your floor is $1.65/mi, you have room. If they offer $1.55/mi, you're losing money on that load.
